So far, Harry Reid has sponsored 3 bills and 4 resolutions. He is also cosponsoring 20 bills and resolutions. He has introduced S.271, S.191, and S.196. These three bills all relate to his state. The first one supports retired veterans, and the other two are about land in Nevada. These are examples of how Reid uses his position to support his constituents. The bill for the compensation of retired veterans is something that he has been working on for years because of support from his state also.
Senator Reid is still recovering from an injury, but he was able to comment Tuesday on the funding of the Department of Homeland Security dispute. Through his shades he said that he would be happy to debate immigration, but he is unwilling to do so until the Department of Homeland Security has funding. Also because of his injury, Reid has not been traveling. However, he is still active in his home state. His office cosponsored a Veterans Career Fair at UNLV in January. This again shows his commitment to veterans. Most of Reid's press releases cover his actions in congress or are comments, but some of them show him acting in a way to get reelected. He recently issued a press release on the topic of the Lunar New Year where he states that he is proud to represent a state with a large Asian-American population. He also appears to look out for the good of his state by issuing statements about receiving emergency funds for interstate repairs and by caring for famous Nevada residents like Jerry Tarkanian who was a basketball coach for UNLV. These actions show that Reid is still trying to look good in the eyes of his state, but his leadership position and his injuries have prohibited his travels. He has been recovering for a few weeks now while still remaining relevant in Washington and helping to lead his party.
